Open Access Week is a global event dedicated to making research and academic publications freely accessible to all. As a university, we are committed to supporting open access to research outputs. For Open Access Week, we are hosting a series of online events aimed at raising awareness and providing practical guidance on open access. These events are run by the Library and the Research Support Unit.

Monday 21st October Lunchtime Talk on Open Access to Research Speaker: David Kane, Deputy Librarian Join David Kane as he discusses the significance of open access to research, its impact on academia, and how it can benefit researchers and the public. This talk will cover the basics of open access publishing and practical ways to make your research more accessible. |
Tuesday 22nd October Lunchtime Talk on FAIR Data Speaker: Alex Soikans, Research Data Officer – Research Support Unit Alex Soikans will share insights on how to manage your data properly, and make your research data FAIR-compliant. Learn about the principles of FAIR Data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and their role in promoting data sharing and transparency in research. |
Wednesday 23rd October Workshop on Article Processing Charges (APCs) Facilitator: Breda Connell, Deputy Librarian Breda Connell will provide tips for navigating APCs and securing funding for open access publishing, through our existing agreements with academic publishers. This workshop will explore the world of APCs, including what they are, how they work, and how to manage them effectively. Drop by this clinic for personalised assistance with ORCID-related queries, including linking your research outputs to your ORCID profile. |
Thursday 24th October PURE Drop-in Clinic Facilitator: Rachael O’Brien, Projects Manager – Research Support Unit Get support with PURE, the university’s research information management system. Rachael O’Brien will be available to answer your questions about managing research publications, data, and other outputs in PURE. |
